US Olympian Durutalo Eager for Domestic Opportunity, Signs with Seattle After Seasons Abroad
Tukwila, Wash. – The Seattle Seawolves have added former HITO-Communications Sunwolf and Ealing Trailfinder, Andrew Durutalo.
The back rower has been a staple in professional rugby across the globe for many years and has landed in Seattle, ready Major League Rugby competition.
Durutalo was born in New York city but returned to Fiji as a child, where he began his rugby career and went on to captain Fiji’s U-19 and U-21 sides.
The forward debuted for the USA Eagles in 2012 in the fifteens format of the game, which then opened up opportunities for the sevens National Team as well. Durutalo represented the United States at the 2013 Rugby 7s World Cup in Russia and the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England. The dynamic forward was also a member of Team USA’s Olympic 7s team that traveled to Rio and placed 9th overall during the sports return to the Summer Olympics platform.
After the Olympics, Durutalo made a move to Japan to play with the Sunwolves of Super Rugby for a season. Eventually a European opportunity knocked, and he headed to the Worcester Warriors for a year before landing at Ealing with the Trailfinders for a long-term deal. A physical addition to the
Seawolves forward pack, Durutalo’s style of play adds only more strength to Seattle’s brand of rugby in year three of Major League Rugby.
“I am looking forward to another big season with the Seawolves,” said Durutalo. “I am honored and privileged to be part of such a talented group of guys and hope I can put in some good performances for this great city.”
The Seattle Seawolves kick off with their second and final exhibition match on January 26 at Starfire Stadium versus the Tasman Mako of New Zealand at 7:30 pm PST. Full season, half season, and single game tickets can be purchased at www.seattleseawolves.com.
