Seawolves Kick Off 2020 With Crimson Tide Rematch at Starfire Stadium
Seattle, Wash. – The Seattle Seawolves will begin their third season with an exhibition match against the Vancouver Island Crimson Tide of British Columbia, Canada in January at Starfire Stadium.
“Vancouver Island is home to many past and present Canadian Internationals and still see it as the hidden gem in North American rugby talent,” said Crimson Tide General Manager Clay Panga. “Our coaching team will be spearheaded by Nanyak Dala, who brings a wealth of experience at the highest level in both sevens and fifteens. Dala will be assisted by the equally credible former international Mike Sholz. Both Dala and Sholz have agreed to putting the best team forward to challenge the two-time MLR champions.”
The rematch from last year’s snowy Langford scenes in December will shift South of the border, being played here in Seattle on Thursday, January 16. The
Seawolves prevailed convincingly 48-7 in the 2019 exhibition opener with tries from Turner (2), Tiberio (2), Mack, Dean, Motokana, and Toluta’u in
front of an excited Canadian crowd and always loud Seawolves’ fans. “We are excited to return the favor after the Tide did an exceptional job hosting
the Seawolves in 2019,” said President and Owner Shane Skinner. “Our close ties with British Columbia underscore the number of Canadian players on
our squad — players who have contributed greatly to our success on and off the field.”
“Rugby is deeply rooted in our day to day living and has a massive influence on our athletes from the grassroots to elite level. The Tide is committed
to the development of Canadian players and coaches,” Panga continued. “The Tide program is over 130 years old and is currently made up of 180 co-ed
youth participants, Junior Academy for girls and boys, one Men’s U23 team, and two Senior teams (Men & Women).”
The Tide will prove to be a competitive test before the Tasman Mako match on January 26, with the Major League Rugby regular season kicking off 9 at San Diego. The Seawolves will kick off against the Tide on January 16 at 7:00 pm PT at Starfire Stadium. Tickets to #SEAvCRT are included in 2020 season ticket holder packages, which can be purchased at
www.seattleseawolves.com. Single game tickets will become available for purchase at a later date.
