The Seattle Seawolves broke 2019 attendance records for another sold out crowd as they faced San Diego Legion for a rematch on Sunday, March 31 at 5:00
PM. The rematch game celebrated Special Olympics WA (SOWA) and Law Enforcement Torch Run. The pregame events included a youth rugby camp and a rugby
introduction for SOWA athletes. A portion of all merchandise sales from the game were donated to SOWA.

 

KICK OFF:

Ben Cima kicked the game off for the Seawolves. San Diego showed up in full force and were able to convert a line out to begin a maul. Legion’s forwards
were successful in the attempt, and put San Diego on the board first, 0-7. Legion found another opportunity for a big break down the pitch but were
halted just short of a try. A Legion scrum was able to touch it down at the posts for a try, which brought the score to 0-14 San Diego.

 

20 MINUTES:

The Seawolves were called for obstruction and San Diego kicked for three more, 0-17 San Diego. The Seawolves knew it was time to shift momentum and kept
steady as they headed down the pitch. Stephan Coetzee ultimately was able to dot down for a try, but Brock Staller was unable to convert the kick.
Eight minutes left in the half and Legion led 5-17. Legion was on the attack once again but their #5 was handed a red card. With another Legion player
already in the sin bin with a yellow card, they were forced to play short two men. An offsides call however gave Legion another penalty kick to end
the first half 5-20.

 

40 MINUTES:

The Seawolves came out for the second half strong on the hunt, but a yellow card for Cam Polson gave Legion another kick for points which brought the score
to 5-23. Seawolves charged on and fought just short of the try line for a long string of phases, until Coetzee was able to dive in for his second try
of the night. Staller missed the kick, Seawolves at 10-23 at the 58th minute.

 

60 MINUTES:

The Seawolves kept on the gas pedal with twenty minutes left. Jeremy Lenaerts ultimately dove above the Legion defense for a try. Staller was just short
on the kick, 15-23 San Diego with thirteen minutes left. A ball slip up off the kick off by the Seawolves led to a quick chance for Legion and another
try, but the conversion was no good. 15-28 San Diego. The Seawolves managed another strong run, as Mat Turner broke away for a try between the posts,
followed by a conversion by Cima. The crowd went wild as the score raised to 22-28 with eight minutes to go. Despite the tough fight and the support
of the crowd, the Seawolves couldn’t make it down the pitch for another try before the final whistle blew.

 

FINAL SCORE:

Seawolves fell to San Diego Legion in a 22-28 loss.
