Seattle Seawolves v Utah Warriors – Saturday, March 16th, 2024 US MLR Match 3 at Zion Bank Stadium
Thanks in large part to a consistent and stout defensive effort, the Seawolves emerged victorious from Saturday’s contest against the formidable Utah Warriors. As a result of the road win in high altitude conditions, the Seawolves remain undefeated in week 3.
Even more impressive, the Seawolves were able to lead the entire match, despite losing captain Riekert Hattingh to an injury early on.
Coach Allen Clark had this to say post-match: “Utah has a tremendous record at home – not many teams win at Zion’s Bank. When we lost Riekert in the first minute our leaders really stepped up and took control. We’re frustrated not to have converted a couple of other opportunities we created, but pleased with the win and, importantly, the overall team performance. It’s another step in the right direction – and there’s more to come!”
The Seawolves received tries from Toni Pulu, Joe Taufete’e, and Jade Stighling in the 24th, 29th, and 41st minutes, respectively. Both Joe and Jade also made this weeks US MLR First XV which is a nod to their incredible match play as the best across the league for their positions. As a team we also won the US MLR Team of the Week accolade.
Now with a short turnaround – the squad faces the only other undefeated team in the league, the Houston SaberCats, on Friday night at home. The Seawolves ended Houston’s playoff run in 2023 and look to knock them off the top of the Western Conference ladder in a match that’s sure to draw crowds.
