Seattle Seawolves Sign Western Men’s Rugby Alum Louie Henson
Seattle, December 14, 2017: The Seattle Seawolves are thrilled to announce the signing
of Western Men’s Rugby alumni, Louie Henson. Born and raised in Auburn, Washington, Henson has demonstrated his commitment to rugby in the Northwest
throughout his athletic career. “It is fantastic to have so many local guys like Louie on the Seattle Seawolves team.” said Head Coach Tony Healy on the addition to the squad. “Major League Rugby will provide a good challenge for Louie, I am looking forward to watching him take on his competitors.”
Henson officially began his rugby career in 2010 with the Rainier Highlanders while competing as a football player for Auburn High School. His exposure
to the sport came much earlier; his father was one of the founding members of Bellingham based club Chuckanut Bay RFC and is a Western Rugby alumnus.
Having been immersed in rugby his entire life, he quickly fell in love with the sport and decided to continue playing at the same school his father
attended with Western Washington University (WWU). Following his freshman year in 2013, he was a Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference (NCRC) 1st team
selection and went on to captain the WWU Vikings from 2013 to 2017. During that time, he excelled as their tighthead prop and helped lead the Vikings
to winning the NCRC 3 times and propelled them to 4 national tournament appearances. Most recently, Henson spent time overseas with the Henley Hawks
competing in the National 2 League South.
Henson is ready for this next step in his career, saying, “It has always been my dream to play rugby at this level, and to do it in my hometown is
a dream come true.” Henson said. “I am honored to join a club with so much talent and such an accomplished coaching staff. I can’t wait to get to work
on winning the first MLR Championship.”
We are proud to welcome Louie Henson to the Seattle Seawolves.
