Seattle Seawolves Sign Capilano RFC and UBC Alum Connor Weyell
December 27, 2017: The Seattle Seawolves are excited to announce the signing of former
University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbird, Connor Weyell. Reuniting in Seattle with former UBC teammate Brock Staller,
Weyell brings dedication and a strong sense of the game to the Seawolves. “Connor is an extremely intelligent player who will thrive in the highly
competitive environment that will prevail in the MLR.” said Head Coach Tony Healy,
“The Seawolves will benefit from both his character and superb work ethic.”
Born and raised in North Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C), Weyell was first introduced to rugby through his father who played the sport. It was while
attending Handsworth Secondary School and competing for his local rugby club Capilano RFC that he grew his passion for the game. Following his high
school career, Weyell chose to attend the University of British Columbia and continue playing rugby with the Thunderbirds. From 2012 to 2017, Weyell
and the Thunderbirds went on an incredible run of success, placing 3rd at the 2015 World University Rugby Cup and winning the B.C Premier League for
3 consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. Recently, Weyell followed his success at UBC by winning the 2017 Canadian Rugby Championship, playing at lock
for the BC Bear’s Senior Men’s team alongside his former UBC teammates as well as future Seawolves Phil Mack,
George Barton, and Cam Polson.
Weyell is excited to make his mark in Seattle, saying, “I am looking forward to getting involved with the community to help the growth of rugby in
the Pacific Northwest.”
We are proud to welcome Connor Weyell to the Seattle Seawolves family.
