Seattle Remains Undefeated at New Orleans 35-36
TUKWILA WA (April 2, 2023) The Seattle Seawolves (6-0) in New Orleans came out victorious after 80 heart pounding minutes of formidable competition against NOLA Gold (3-4), breaking NOLA’s three match winning streak in Week 7.
Conner Mooneyham set the tone in the first few seconds of the match with a try taking the early lead along with a conversion kick by AJ Alatimu. Within minutes, Pete Malcom crossed the try zone for the second time, but a review called the try back, score 7-0. The final points scored in the first half by Seattle were from a penalty kick from Alatimu. NOLA Gold dominated the rest of the half, gaining the lead with three tries in response. Seawolves went into the half down 21-10 for the first time this season.
Dan Kriel began the comeback in the second half by scoring a tough fought try, breaking through NOLA Gold traffic at the try line, 21-17. After a try by NOLA, Seattle responded with purpose and momentum with back to back tries by Conner Mooneyham and Mason Pedersen with one conversion kick by Jordan Chait, which brought the score to a single point, 28-29. The Seawolves were unstoppable as NOLA’s defense crumbled under Seawolves pressure, and Jake Turnbull raised the stakes by finding his route into the try zone, 28-36.
In the final minutes of the match, NOLA scored another try, making it a one point differential, 35-36. NOLA followed it up with a second attempt, but were met with the Seawall defense resulting in the stop. In the background, Seawolves fans could be heard cheering on the team to victory as the clock ran out.
