Seattle-Native Set for Big Stage, Motokana Signs with Hometown Seawolves
Seattle, Wash. — The Seattle Seawolves have signed former Sacramento Express and Westside Ronins’ Captain, Jope Motokana.
Motokana, originally from Fiji, grew up in his hometown of Seattle where he began his rugby career at the age of 10. The Mountlake Terrace High School
alumni played for the Seattle Vikings before joining the club rugby scene. Following his first season with the Seattle Saracens, the chance to
play for Minneapolis Rugby arose and he joined the club for one year. Motokana moved back to Seattle where he continued to play sevens and fifteens
for the Saracens from 2014-15. In 2016, with the introduction of PRO Rugby, Motokana signed with the Sacramento Express for the league’s sole season.
After a taste of professional rugby, the scrumhalf returned home to continue his trade with Seattle and the Westside Ronins. As part of the 2019
preseason squad, Motokana impressed in Vancouver and San Francisco with the Seawolves. Motokana continued to train and play locally throughout
the MLR season, ready for the call up if needed. Over the summer, Motokana captained the Westside Ronins to their first USA Rugby Club 7’s Nationals
appearance. You will often find Motokana smiling on the pitch, likely because he is making the opposition wonder what just happened with his cheeky
play and skillful decision making. Adding coverage at the scrumhalf position, Motokana is a great addition to the fast-paced Seattle backline.
“I’m ready for the chance to play at the next level in my hometown with the Seawolves,” said Motokana. “To get to train and play with, and play against,
some of the best players in the world is such an exciting challenge and I am looking forward to it.”
Watch Motokana and the Seattle Seawolves at Starfire Stadium starting January 2020 with full season, half season, or single game tickets that can be purchased at www.seattleseawolves.com.
