Mack Ready for Coach Journey With Seawolves, Named Assistant for 2020 Season
Seattle, Wash. – The Seattle Seawolves have signed Rugby Canada and Seattle Seawolves scrumhalf, Phil Mack, as full-time assistant coach for the 2020 Major League Rugby season.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Phil join the team as our assistant coach after the 2019 Rugby World Cup this fall,” said President and Owner Shane Skinner. “Phil has been instrumental in the team’s back-to-back championships our first two seasons, including leading the team to its first in our inaugural year as a player-coach, which makes him one of the few individuals to obtain this unique accomplishment.”
The Vancouver Island native and Toquaht First Nation member has an even more decorated career since first signing with Seattle, adding two Major League
Rugby Championship titles and plans for a second Rugby World Cup selection next month.
“Phil has been with the Seawolves from day one so we couldn’t be more excited for him to continue his coaching journey here in Seattle with his home Major
League Rugby team,” said Board Member and General Manager Adrian Balfour.
After an impressive 975 points in 52 World Rugby Sevens events and 57-and-counting caps on the fifteens pitch for Rugby Canada. As the first player ever
announced to the Seawolves, Mack has played in almost every Seawolves match to date, only ever missing two games, and has the third most caps of any
Seawolf. Most recently, he helped Canada win the 2019 World Cup Repechage Tournament which secure Canada the last spot in upcoming event. Canada, and
hopefully Mack, will kick off their World Cup campaign with an opening match against Italy on September 26th.
“I am extremely excited and proud to be headed back to the Seawolves for the 2020 season. I truly believe that there is something special happening in
the Seattle and am proud to have been a part of the Seawolves so far,” said Mack. “I know the players well and know what they demand of each other
on and off the field. Although I will have a different role, I am excited to have the opportunity to drive the success of the team alongside coach
Lensing.”
The 2020 Major League Rugby season will kick off in February of 2020. Seawolves season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at https://seattleseawolves.showare.com/ordertickets.asp?p=58.
