January 28 Preseason Match Update
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON (January 10, 2022) – The Seattle Seawolves have adjusted their second 2022 preseason match opponent. Due to travel restrictions, border difficulties, and the rise in omicron cases, the ability to host the Rugby Canada West Selects has changed. We look forward to scheduling matches with Rugby Canada program sides in the future when it is safe to do so.
Domestic select side, the Hartford Harpooners, will step in as the Seawolves new opponent for the January 28 fixture at Starfire Stadium. The Hartford Harpooners’ mission is to attract athletes who have the intention of becoming a professional rugby player and then provide opportunities for them to perform on a platform suitable for their development. The Harpooners’ intention as a program is to be one of the best programs in the country playing MLR teams during their preseason schedule, and then their Academy teams in season. The Hartford Harpooners was founded by former USA Eagle Marcus Satavu who is the program director, head coach, and an active player – working to lead by example both on and off the pitch. The select side has a great balance of veterans who have played professionally and players who are eager to climb the ladder.
“The Hartford Harpooners would like to thank the Seattle Seawolves for inviting us down for a match,” said Marcus Satavu, Harpooners program director. “Opportunities like this helps us continue to work towards our program goals.”
The first preseason match versus UBCOB Ravens on January 22 remains unchanged. The Seawolves look forward to using their preseason matches to test player combinations, allow development players to showcase their skills, and finalize preparations for the start of the season. Regular season will begin February 6 as Seattle welcomes the Toronto Arrows to Starfire Stadium in Tukwila. 2022 season and half-season memberships, as well as group and single-match tickets, are on sale now and can be purchased here.
