Former NFL Running Back Iosefa Continues Rugby Path with Seawolves
With a predominately football background, Joey comes to Seattle after a season with the SaberCats excited about the Seawolves’ clout and fans.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 30, 2019
SEATTLE –The Seattle Seawolves are excited to announce the signing of former New England Patriot and Houston SaberCat, Marvin “Joey”
Iosefa.
Born in American Samoa, Joey grew up playing rugby but shifted gears to football when the University of Hawaii presented an athletic scholarship opportunity.
During his four years as a Warriors, Iosefa put up a handful of top stats for the school, finishing his career 5th in career rushing
touchdowns (21) and 5th in career rushing yards (2,218). After graduating, he was drafted to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 7th round
of 2015 NFL Draft. He went on to play for the New England Patriots (2015-16) and Carolina Panthers (2018). Joey found his way back to his rugby
roots after hanging up his helmet, signing with the Houston SaberCats for the 2018 inaugural Major League Rugby season. A move in the off-season
landed him and his family here in Seattle where he has been a standout member of the Seattle Saracens Men’s Premiership side. Iosefa brings strength
and footwork to an already dynamic Seawolves backline with his consistent ball-carrying abilities.
“I am just excited about the rugby culture here in Seattle,” said Iosefa. “And even more excited about the potential to bring more MLR championships
to the best rugby fans in the United States.”
