SEATTLE, WA—The Seattle Seawolves fell 34-25 to Anthem Rugby Carolina on Sunday afternoon in a physical road contest defined by discipline, defensive stands, and missed opportunities.
Seattle entered the match with a reshaped lineup as injuries earlier in the season created opportunities for emerging players. Calvin Liulamaga and Charlie Walsh were named in the matchday squad, while Tiai Vavao made his second consecutive appearance.
Anthem controlled the opening stages and struck first, applying early pressure through set piece dominance and field position. Seattle responded through the boot of Davy Coetzer, who converted two penalties to keep the match within reach.
Momentum shifted in the 23rd minute. A precise 50-22 kick from Divan Rossouw flipped field position and set up sustained pressure. Ezekiel Lindenmuth finished the sequence, crossing the line to give Seattle its first lead after the conversion.
Seattle extended that momentum shortly after, with Paddy Ryan finishing a quick attacking sequence to push the Seawolves ahead in a back-and-forth first half.
Despite the response, Anthem capitalized late in the half to regain control and entered the break with a narrow lead.
Seattle opened the second half with intent and created multiple scoring opportunities. A potential early try was ruled out, and several attacking phases were held up over the line.
Discipline became a factor as the Seawolves were shown two yellow cards, forcing the side to defend for extended stretches while down a player.
Even while shorthanded, Seattle generated pressure but could not convert key chances. Handling errors at critical moments stalled attacking momentum.
Calvin Liulamaga made an immediate impact after entering the match. He nearly scored on his first major touch, held up just short of the line, before contributing to a scoring sequence shortly after.
His presence added energy late and highlighted the depth building within the squad.
Divan Rossouw crossed late to bring Seattle within one score, with the conversion narrowing the gap to six points.
Anthem responded with composure, controlling possession and adding a late penalty to close out the match and secure the result.
