Seattle Seawolves Rugby College Night theme was a success on and off the pitch!

MAY 7, 2024

It was an electrifying night at Starfire in Tukwila for the Seattle Seawolves Rugby College Night theme, complete with a Run With the Pack youth camp for 5-12 yr olds and a college Curtain Raiser match between the University of Washington and Oregon State University, with OSU winning 28 – 27.

Rugby was not the only entertainment for the night though with six Puget Sound University Students competing in a pie-eating contest, a must-watch New Orleans brass band performance by Ballard High School. The College Night fun continued on the pitch with a well choreographed Thurston County Dance Performance including Tumwater, Timberline, Black Hills, and River Ridge High School.

Seawolves showed their commitment to community and youth development as each player of the 23 man squad ran on partnering with a Panthers Youth rugby club kid.

Seawolves opened up the scoring of the main event with a mauling try at the 11th minute mark, carried across by DaQuan Perry in his first time as part of the starting XV. Sam Windsor converted the try and the first 7 points of the match went to Seattle. Anthem found their first points with a successful penalty kick earning them 3 points.

Seattle kept the lead for the first half adding another 3 points from a penalty kick due to Anthem players acting in an offside position, while Anthem remained close and their #13 scored their first try of the match, ending half time only 2 points behind.

Half Time – Seawolves 10 – Anthem 8

Joe Taufete’e came off the bench for Seattle scoring their second mauling try of the match at 54 minutes. Quickly regaining possession of the ball, Seattle scored again at 58 minutes, with Sam Windsor making the most of a cross kick from Mack Mason, scoring the 3rd try of the match for Seattle. Converting his own try, Windsor grew Seattle’s lead to 22 to Anthems 8.

Huw Taylor scored the fourth try of the match for Seattle earning the team a bonus point for scoring 4 or more tries in any match and Windsor was successful with the conversion kick changing the score to Seattle 29 – Anthem 8. Not to be outdone, Anthem took advantage of the running clock scoring the final try of the match in overtime.

Full Time – Seawolves 29 – Anthem 13.

Sam Windsor was named Man of the Match for his dominant performance earning Seattle 14 of their 29 points scored.

Post match Rhyno Herbst was presented with his 50th MLR cap and was joined by the most capped mascot in the league, Seattle’s seawolf aptly named Rucky

Seawolves remain the top performing Seattle sports team with their 2024, 8-1-0 record and with previous notable results; 2018 & 2019 back to back MLR champions, 2022 Western Conference Champions, 2023 semi-final winners and currently the second top team in the league with their current 38 championship points.
