Seattle Seawolves scrum half Brock Gallagher recently joined Washington Sports Wrap on Fox 13 Seattle to introduce himself to fans, discuss his journey to rugby, and share his thoughts on living in the Emerald City. The Canadian-born playmaker, who joined the Seawolves this season, gave insight into his background and what makes Seattle the perfect place for him both on and off the pitch.

A Unique Path to Rugby

Gallagher’s rugby story is anything but traditional. Growing up in Canada, he initially followed the country’s national pastime—hockey. However, with both of his parents having rugby backgrounds, the sport was always a natural option. In a surprising twist, he revealed that Irish dancing was also a part of his early life before he eventually committed to rugby.

“Both my parents grew up playing rugby, so if hockey didn’t end up being the go-to, rugby was the fallback,” Gallagher shared. “But before that, it was Irish dancing, then hockey, then rugby.”

Gallagher also spoke about his deep connection to the sport, noting that rugby played a pivotal role in his life—quite literally. His parents met through rugby, with his father coaching his mother at the club and provincial levels before they eventually started a family.

Adjusting to Life in Seattle

Previously a member of the Dallas Jackals, Gallagher is relishing his new home in Seattle. Comparing the city to Victoria, British Columbia, where he lived for five years, he highlighted the vibrant atmosphere, scenic beauty, and outdoor opportunities.

“The city itself is beautiful. Growing up as a city boy, I love big cities, and Seattle has everything—great food, shopping, and an amazing outdoors scene,” Gallagher said. “I love having the chance to hike, be by the water, and escape rugby for a bit when needed. That balance has been huge for me.”

Seattle’s passionate rugby community and strong Seawolves culture have also made the transition seamless.

Looking Ahead in the Season

With his first Seattle Seawolves match under his belt, Gallagher is eager to keep growing with the team and contributing on the pitch. His playmaking skills and quick decision-making will be key assets as the Seawolves continue their campaign.
