JP Smith

Juan-Philip (JP) was born in Queenstown, South Africa and followed the steps many young athletes take in his country to pick up a rugby ball. Early success on the pitch while attending Queen’s College placed JP on his provincial select side, the Border Bulldogs. Once school was completed, Smith took to Pretoria where his career with the Blue Bulls began. Playing for their U19 program, he continued through their pathway moving from U19 to U21 to a Blue Bulls senior debut in 2015. During his time with the Bulls, JP was also selected to the South Africa U20’s team that competed in the IRB Junior World Championship. After years in the Bulls program, Smith took to the Free State Cheetahs for two seasons before taking to Pro14 competition with the Southern Kings in 2018. The talented playmaker brings sound decision making and a consistent kicking game to a talented Seawolves backline.
