Seawolves Remain Undefeated in Week 4
TUKWILA WA (March 11, 2023) –The Seattle Seawolves won 24-12 over the Houston SaberCats in the fourth match of the Major League Rugby (MLR) 2023 Season in front of a packed stadium at Starfire Sports Complex. They remain the only undefeated team in the league, and it is the first time Seattle has been 4-0 in franchise history.
A tough fought and physical match on both sides, the first Seawolves try was scored in the first half by Pete Malcolm after Riekert Hattingh bulldozed the line. Alatimu completed the conversion kick to tie the score 7-7, and had two consecutive penalty conversions furthering the lead to 13-7. A try by Houston with a missed conversion kick took it into halftime 13-12.
Early in the second half, Hattingh took it into the try zone, advancing the lead to 18-12, with a missed conversion kick by Alatimu. The remaining two penalty conversions by Alatimu secured the win 24-12. A fierce battle won by the Seawolves by over 7 points put the Seawolves at the #1 standing in the MLR Western Conference, while the SaberCats drop to #3.
Seattle has a bye next week for well deserved rest before traveling to face the newly formed expansion team, the Chicago Hounds at SeatGeek Stadium on 3/26. The match will be broadcast on ROOT SPORTS and ROOT SPORTS + regionally and streamed online on The Rugby Network.
The next home match will be 4/8 where the Seawolves host San Diego Legion (3-1) in another Western Conference showdown. Half-season memberships, single match tickets, and group tickets are on sale now at https://seawolves.rugby/buy-tickets/
