SEAWOLVES REMAIN UNDEFEATED AT HOME AS THEY STOP RUNY’S RUN

 

The Seattle Seawolves welcomed yet another sold out crowd to Starfire Stadium as they faced Rugby United New York. RUNY are one of the two newest additions
to Major League Rugby and were 2-0 thus far in the season. Home field advantage proved to be a success for the Seawolves again as they took down the
previously undefeated RUNY in a 33-21 game. The Seawolves continued to be undefeated at home and brought their record up to 3-2. 

 

KICK OFF:

Ben Cima kicked off the Seattle Seawolves fifth game and the crowd quickly made themselves heard with cheers of “Sea” “Wolves” echoing throughout Starfire.
Fresh off of last week’s win, the Seawolves showed their momentum was continuing to build as Eric Duechle scored a try early in the game. Brock Staller
converted with a kick, putting the Seawolves on the board first, 7-0. RUNY was quick to show they are a strong match up for the Seawolves and came
back with their own try and conversion, tying it up 7-7 at the 12th minute of the game. RUNY then took advantage of an open field and made a break
but were stopped by the Seawall just short of the try zone. A RUNY scrum proved dangerous however as they were able to peel off for five points. 7-14
RUNY.

 

20 MINUTES:

The Seawolves came back firing as they powered down the field hungry for a try. A Seawolves scrum near the try line didn’t quite do it, but a series of
phases allowed Tim Metcher to finish the efforts for a try. Staller converted and tied it up, 14-14. The Seawolves weren’t slowing down yet, this time
it was Shalom Suniula as he spotted a gap in the RUNY line. One last RUNY man stood between him and a try, but Suniula’s classic quick feet took him
out and around, reaching for a Seawolves try in the corner. Staller converted a wide kick once again, bringing the Seawolves up 21-14. RUNY looked
like they would be able to answer back with another try, but the Seawall held strong and the Seawolves were able to move the ball back down the pitch.
A loose RUNY ball allowed Staller to tip and intercept the ball and stride 70 meters for a try. Staller’s conversion kick hit the post however, but
the Seawolves still had a sizeable lead going into halftime up 26-14.

 

40 MINUTES:

The Seawolves had their best start of the season with a strong lead from the first half. The Seawall was put to the test first thing against an aggressive
RUNY offense. But the Seawolves managed to steal the scrum and then a RUNY line out. A series of trading possessions and some smart decisions by the
Seawolves led Ben Cima to a kick over the RUNY defense, and Brock Staller charged ahead for another Seawolves try. Staller converted his own points,
extending the Seawolves lead to 33-14.

 

60 MINUTES:

While the Seawall continued to hold strong, RUNY was able to take advantage of a wide run down the sideline. RUNY scored and converted, which brought the
score to 33-21 with the Seawolves still in the lead and ten minutes left in the game. Despite RUNY’s best efforts in the last ten minutes of the game,
the Seawall proved to be impenetrable. In a hugely important game, the Seawolves were victorious.

 

FINAL SCORE:

Seawolves win 33-21 against Rugby United New York.

 

NEXT HUNT:

The Seawolves get a well-deserved week off and then take the pitch at home again Sunday, March 10 at 5:00 PM PST against the Houston Sabercats. Starfire
Stadium won’t be without rugby though, as the Seawolves host two USA National team games on March 2 and March 8.
