Seattle Seawolves Playoff Journey: Christian and Marni Jacobsen’s Story
Seattle Seawolves superfans Christian and Marni Jacobsen share their incredible journey. Here’s their story in their own words:
“As season ticket holders since the first season in 2018, Marni and I have attended Seattle Seawolves games at home, away, during the regular season, in the postseason, and at each of Seattle’s Championship appearances.
The two MLR Championship trophies the Seawolves brought home were actually won on our wedding anniversary in 2018 and 2019! On the pitch with the team after the wins we celebrated our love for each other and the Seawolves incredible achievements in a giddy and teary joyful celebration.
Every year we continue to support our boys at home and away and are always happy with the experience. Rugby fans on opposing teams are not seen as ‘enemies’ like in other sports. Instead, rugby fans are excited to welcome the other teams’ fans into their home stadium and city and make the away fans feel welcomed. I rarely need to buy my own beer when going to a Seawolves away game!
In our travels to Seawolves away games, we have made friends all over the US, and even have made bets of local coffee or whisky with fans of opposing teams! (Side note: French Truck Coffee from New Orleans is something really special and you should try it!)
But it’s when you get to see the Seawolves at home, at Starfire Stadium, where the heart gets its biggest workout! The stadium is big enough to get LOUD but small enough that there’s no bad seats and you are never far from the fast-paced, hard-hitting action. Whether watching from high up in the stands and getting an overview of the whole field, or down at eye-level with the players as they compete, every fan can find their spot to feel the action. And, at the end, the boys walk the sideline and shake hands and chat with the fans before heading back to the locker rooms. It’s very up close and personal, and rugby players are just the nicest people in sports.
The San Diego Legion and the Seattle Seawolves have had a rivalry going back to the second season, where San Diego beat us twice during the regular season, but we won the Championship in the very last second of the game! The rivalry has created some of the most iconic games in MLR history, and this one will be no different as we compete for the Western Division title and a slot in the Championship game to be held August 4th in San Diego’s amazing new Snapdragon Stadium.
Rugby is a brutal sport, but a gentlemanly one as well. These guys leave every ounce of themselves on the pitch, then get together afterwards to share a meal and beers. Fierce competitors on the pitch, friends laughing and sharing a beer afterwards. America needs this right now. It’s time for rugby, America.”
