January 22 Match Update
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON (January 15, 2022) – The Seattle Seawolves have adjusted their first 2022 preseason match opponent. Due to travel restrictions and border difficulties, the ability to host UBCOB Ravens has changed. We look forward to scheduling matches with the Ravens in the future.
Local premier side Seattle Rugby Club will step in as the Seawolves new opponent for the January 22 fixture at Starfire Stadium. Creating opportunities through rugby since 1966, Seattle Rugby Club has been one of the most competitive Clubs in North America in both the men’s and women’s game. Balancing community philanthropic work while fielding top-level sides, Seattle Rugby Club has produced over 30 men’s players in Major League Rugby (MLR), two female players in England’s Allianz Premiership 15s, and numerous national team athletes for a handful of countries. Seattle Rugby Club last faced the Seawolves in a preseason scrimmage January 17, 2019, where Seawolf alumni Ryan Kirk was playing for Seattle Rugby Club, whom he now coaches.
“The fact that the Seawolves and Seattle Rugby Club are able to quickly schedule a replacement friendly together demonstrates the quality of rugby in the Pacific Northwest,” said Ryan Kirk, Seattle Rugby Club men’s head coach and Seawolf alumni. “We’re proud to see our strong partnership continue. Adaptability is important for any organization, and this will prepare both our sides for our respective seasons ahead. For Seattle Rugby Club playing against the Seawolves will allow our players with aspirations to play at the next level to measure themselves against some of the most talented players in Major League Rugby.”
Tickets for this match can be purchased here. The Seawolves look forward to using their preseason matches to test player combinations, allow development players to showcase their skills, and finalize preparations for the start of the season. Regular season will begin February 6 as Seattle welcomes the Toronto Arrows to Starfire Stadium in Tukwila. 2022 season and half-season memberships, as well as group and single-match tickets, are on sale now and can be purchased here.
