Chilean Hooker Böhme Pivots to MLR, Seawolf through 2023
March 3, 2022 (TUKWILA, WASHINGTON) – The Seattle Seawolves have signed Chilean National team member and former Selknam hooker, Augusto Bohme. The technical front rower will make his Major League Rugby debut in 2022 with the Seawolves.
“Augusto is a young, powerful and exciting Hooker who adds competition to our front row depth chart,” said Seawolves head coach and director of rugby Allen Clarke. “In addition to having good positional scrum and line out technique he’s a powerful and explosive ball carrier and aggressive defender. We’re delighted to welcome Augusto and his partner, Maria, to the Seawolves family for the next two years.”
Originally from Santiago, Chile, the 24-year-old has been playing rugby most of his life. Böhme played his adult club rugby for Universidad Católica for many seasons. He was a member of the Chile U20 Junior World Trophy in 2017, making his test match debut with the Chilean National Team in 2018 against the Maori All Blacks. He then signed with Selknam of Super Liga Americana, a professional rugby union competition and the top-level championship for many countries in South America, in 2019. Böhme made nine appearances for the Club over two seasons, starting in six of them, and scored two tries. Currently at 16 caps for the Condors, his latest appearances being in wins over Brazil, Russia, and Canada – a victory that knocked Canada out of the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The 5’9, 225 lbs. hooker adds more professional depth, rugby knowledge, and shifty footwork to the Seawolves forward pack through 2023. You can watch his highlights here.
“I’m very excited about joining the Seawolves–a big club in the MLR with great ambitions for being champions,” said Böhme. “I’m looking forward to being part of the Seawolves community and give my 100% to help the team.”
The Seattle Seawolves will host NOLA Gold (0-3) at Starfire Stadium Friday, March 4 at 7:30 PM. There will be a youth camp pre-match in Seattle’s Run with the Pack, presented by Westfield Southcenter, and 1st-8th grade boys and girls are encouraged to sign up here.
Seattle versus NOLA is the MLR Game of the Week and will be broadcast on FS2 nationally and streamed online internationally on The Rugby Network. Half-season memberships, single match tickets, and group tickets are on available now at www.tickets.seawolves.rugby.
