Seattle Seawolves Partner with Special Olympics Washington
Seattle, December 19, 2017: Expanding on their partnership with the Special Olympics USA Games, the Seattle Seawolves are proud to announce a new partnership with Special Olympics Washington.
Part of the efforts to bring the Special Olympics USA Games to Seattle from July 1-6, 2018,
Special Olympics Washington is a leader in wellness and inclusion and using sports to build community.
Their positive impact in the community is felt every day with 17,000 athletes participating in Special Olympics Washington activities and 3.5 million
athletes worldwide competing in Special Olympics programs. Utilizing a variety of programs and more than 8,000 Special Olympics Washington volunteers,
the partnership will provide support for Special Olympics athletes beyond the 2018 Spring Games.
Seawolves Co-Founder Shane Skinner has been involved with the Special Olympics for over 25 years and believes rugby and Special Olympics have important
shared values. “The Seawolves and the sport of Rugby pride itself on a culture of inclusion, teamwork and camaraderie” said Skinner. “No matter your
age, stature, or experience, there is a place for you in the sport. Special Olympics Washington is a perfect organization to partner with in furthering
our mission of inclusive participation in rugby.”
Changing the world is a contact sport, and Special Olympics Washington provides opportunities every day to make affect positive change. Find out how
you can make a difference in an athlete’s life today by checking out their volunteer page or providing a charitable donation.
Special Olympics Washington CEO, Dave Lenox expressed his excitement about the new partnership with the Seawolves. “Special Olympics has changed over the
years from an organization focused on just getting our friends and neighbors who have intellectual disabilities “off the couch”, to a community resource
focused on using the power of inclusive sport experiences to change communities and help us all reach new heights! This partnership brings our athletes
together with elite athletes who are eager to send a message that EVERYONE in our community should be able to enjoy Rugby!”
The Seattle Seawolves are proud to partner with Special Olympics Washington.
