Diverted from Dallas, Malcolm Lands in Seattle for 2021
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON (March 27, 2021) – The Seattle Seawolves are excited to announce the signing of former Glasgow Warrior and London Scottish hooker, James Malcolm.
From Glasgow, Scotland, Malcolm’s rugby career began at a young age with Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians Rugby Football Club and progressed to Ayr Rugby Football
Club in 2013. Securing a spot in the Scottish Rugby Elite Development Program (SREDP), which helps student athletes balance sport and school, Malcolm
aligned with the Glasgow Warriors and continued to play for Ayr while pushing for a Warriors spot. As he continued to develop, Malcolm was selected
to the Scotland U20 squad and competition opportunities. He debuted for the Warriors in a Pro12 match at Cardiff Blues in 2015 in their 35-30 win.
Graduating from the SREDP in 2016, Malcolm signed his first professional contract with the Warriors where he made 13 appearances for the club. Although
uncapped for Scotland, in February of 2018, he was brought into the Scotland senior squad to prepare for the 2018 Six Nations. Malcolm’s next move
was to the Doncaster Knights on a loan deal where he made 10 appearances during the 2018-19 season. In 2019, he signed with London Scottish where he
made 18 appearances and scored 20 points before rugby paused globally.
Malcolm was set to debut in Major League Rugby in 2021 with the Dallas Jackals. Ahead of the season, Dallas withdrew from the competition to shift gears
towards MLR 2022. In need of another hooker and more front row coverage, Seattle was ready to make an offer to Malcolm that he gladly accepted. The
hooker is excited to finally be here in Seattle and joining the team in week two of the regular season. Malcolm brings power and technical skill to
our set piece and open field play that is sure to bolster the Seawolves forward pack.
“I couldn’t wait to be a part of this team,” said Malcolm. “The group that is in place for this season is a really exciting one. Hopefully I can play a
part in bringing some more silverware to Seattle in our efforts to win a third title. Rugby aside I’m really excited at the opportunity to experience
the American way of life and in particular see what life in Seattle has to offer.”
The Seattle Seawolves travel to Los Angeles this weekend to face MLR’s newest franchise, the Giltinis, who currently sit at the top of the West Conference standings. Kick off at the Los Angeles Coliseum will be at 5:30 PM PT on Sunday, March 28. Viewers inside the United States can tune in live on ROOT SPORTS and
