Seawolves Trade with LA, Acquire 2021 MLR Champion Hooker McNulty
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON (APRIL 22, 2022) – The Seattle Seawolves have signed former LA Giltini hooker, Sean McNulty, through 2022. McNulty becomes the first Giltini to sign with the Seawolves as he joins his fourth Major League Rugby (MLR) Club.
“We’re delighted to sign Sean, another USA qualified player to the squad,” said Seawolves director of rugby and head coach Allen Clarke. “He’s an experienced player with ambitions to establish himself with the Seawolves. We welcome Sean to our family.”
Originally from Dublin, Ireland, 26-year-old McNulty spent most of his childhood here in the United States. After a move to Bahrain, McNulty began his rugby career with Bahrain RFC. He quickly flourished in the sport and once at Rockwell College, he helped the first side win the Munster Schools Senior Cup and went on to represent Munster on regional age-grade sides. McNulty also represented Ireland at the U20 Six Nations and World Cup in 2014 and 2015 while earning a contract with Leinster Rugby. He played for Leinster through 2018 before pivoting to Major League Rugby. McNulty signed with Rugby United New York in 2019. He then joined the New England Free Jacks and started for the Eastern Conference side through the cut-short 2020 season. His next move to Los Angeles paid dividends, as the forward helped LA in their MLR Championship winning season in 2021. The 6’2, 245 lb. mobile front rower brings all the technical skills needed to bolster our depth at hooker and is eligible for USA selection based on the 10-year residency rule.
“Excited to join an ambitious and competitive club with a strong history of winning championships and passionate fan base,” said McNulty.
